As far as I am aware the only such list in the UK is the national Sex Offender Register, which under the Criminal Justice Act 2003 requires persons convicted of a sexual offence to register their details with the police. This database is not open to the public in order to prevent a) vigilantism of the kind that drove members of the public to harrass a *paediatrician* in the mistaken belief that she was a *paedophile* and b) to prevent known offenders from going underground due to their fear of being "outed". Once they're in hiding, the police, social services and the probation service have no chance at all of monitoring them or their activities.
And the person posting above me is absolutely correct: the vast majority of sexual offending (against adults as well as children) is perpetrated by people known to the victim, often a family member, and usually in a familiar setting, especially their own home. The whole "stranger danger" focus shifts away attention from where the actual danger to children lies.

Why, so you can kill someone? That's all it seems to be good for. Give it a rest. I'm tired of hearing about sex offenders. You want to know why? I looked at the US department of justice website cause I was curious. 90% of people who commit these sort of crimes are friends and family. You know what that means? The guy in your living room is statistically more likely going to molest you or your kids than the guy down the street. Make sure your own house is ok before you look at others.
