Firefox. Reason are simple and I'll explain

1. Firefox does not run ActiveX plugins. IE does and is the root cause of most security issues.
2. Firefox adheres to W3C standards for web authoring. IE does not.
3. Firefox faster.
4. Firefox has skins and extensions for. I use Weather.com extension and Adblock allot.
4. IE7 has XML Security problems that can allow hackers to take control of your computer. Microsoft has yet to fix it.

Firefox by a mile. It's a million times more secure, supports incredibly useful plug ins like Adblock which IE has nothing like and it's faster to load web pages. lord cooler seems to disagree but he doesn't have the slightest idea what he's talking about. See the million or so people that come here all the time because they're infested with spyware? NONE of them would have that problem if they used Firefox. Or indeed any browser that wasn't IE.

Firefox.
Firefox is more powerful. It's faster, MUCH more secure, has a huge community behind it, it's easier to use, has a cleaner interface, has superior popup protection, has phishing protection.
And that's not mentioning any of the vast amount of useful plugins and addons available.
If a security vulnerability is discovered in IE it can be months before Microsoft patches it. If a security vulnerability is discovered in Firefox, a patch is released within days.
Firefox is gaining popularity over IE, and has been doing so since it's release.

I have used Fire Fox for years and have no reliability issues. I also have IE and I find that everybody in the world tries to attach soemthing to it. So I don't use it. I just checked and there are five toolbars attached to IE. I didn't put them there. With Fire Fox I just have the one.

Firefox seems to attract less attention from people trying to do something to or for me.

For the most part, Firefox is better than IE.

IE is a resource hog, especially if you are using Outlook. More viruses are written to take advantage of Outlook and IE, and MS tends to ignore or delay fixes to vulnerabilities.

Mozilla (maker of Firefox) updates it's browser frequently. If a known vulnerability is discovered, Mozilla will attend to it by the next business day or sooner (unless it's a really nasty bug), and Firefox uses less resources making it a bit faster once it's loaded.

You will find most tech will guide you to Firefox, and most people you meet that are into computing will say they use Firefox over IE any day.

Firefox kicks the metaphoric shi.t out of IE7

EDIT: The guy above has i the wrong way around, Firefox starts up a bit slower but it also supports plug ins which must initialize and it is more secure and reliable. IE is a hunk of craap

O-K.
GOOD QUESTION!

FireFox is fater. No Doubt. But it does tend to Lock Up / Crash a bit.

I.E. (6) is MUCH more stable, and is plenty fast enough.
Simply because it is integrated into Windows and can more dependably navigate the Internet with that Windows integration.

DO NOT INSTALL I.E. 7!
It is FULL of bugs and is NOT ready for release!
(What were they THINKING?!?!?)

Firefox - I use it 90% of the time, then netscape. I use IE only if I have to get something from microsoft. IE is too susceptable to bugs.
