There once was a man, who wanted to be the head goat of all the goats in the world. He ate sh*t and suddenly became popular, he didn't care, they didn't care. Everyone had a crappy life.
The End

I'm obviously not the first here to push the 'be yourself' button, but I can tell you, there's merit to it. Here's my experience:

Until I was close to twenty (when I came across Roaccutane) I had severe cystic acne. I considered this the main cause of my social problems, but after a while I just stopped caring what people thought of me. It was a waste of energy and I was more interested in developing my character and honour and preserving my individuality (frankly, I found the popular types painfully boring and didn't want to emulate them).

Those things in mind, I was happy as a clam (though clams look kind of ambivalent to me). Suddenly, people seemed to gravitate toward this new, happy version of me, though my style be goofy and my face be scarred. Enjoy the experience of being yourself. Show everyone how much you enjoy it. They might just enjoy it with you.

Okay I'm gonna tell you what everyone else tells you. Be yourself. Be bubbly look good to see everyone even if you aren't. Don't fit the mold and very important don't step on people it will hit you in the butt. How do you dress? Well you need to dress nice enough that you don't look like a slob or a skamp make a twist on an old or new style. I promise you it will work and whoever says that you aren't as long as you aren't mean, then DON'T LISTEN. They are jealous.

The others have it right You can only be you. Even the popular kids have troubles, and feel just as terrible as you feel. They are just better at covering it. School for me was many years ago, and one of the worst.

People rarely grow-up-they just grow old. Human kind is far away from reaching our potential When you accept your self, others might do the same.

WELL I'M ONLY 13 AND I GO TO A HUGE SCHOOL I'M POPULAR BUT NOT BECAUSE OF WHAT I WEAR HOW I ACT OR WHO I HANG OUT WITH OR WHERE I SHOP? I'M POPULAR FOR WHO I AM! DON'T CHANGE WHO YOU ARE BECAUSE EVERYONE IS THE SAME NO MATTER HOW U LOOK ACT, OR EVEN DRESS!! THIS MAY SOUND REALLY LIKE ITS COMING FROM YOUR "RENTS BUT I HAVE BEEN THERE I KNOW WHAT IT FEELS LIKE!!

It may feel like it's important to have people like you, but it's truly much more important to like yourself. The more you like yourself and are comfortable with who you are, the more other people will respond to that confidence and charisma. This is one of those things where you have to let it go in order to achieve it. You can't worry about it. Besides popularity is fleeting. You may achieve it briefly but I can guarantee you that people are fickle and someday you'll have to stand on your own merits.

I say be yourself. Being popular to me would be: someone who most people can relate to and enjoy hanging with and can be themselves around other people without being ashamed of who you are or what you think other people might say about you. And for clothes: something that's cute and something YOU'RE comfortable in, whether it be the latest fashions, or name brand, if its your style, wear it with attitude and people will soon appreciate it!

I don't give a crap...? Who cares about being "popular?" I'm much happier being myself than catering to those shallow losers.
