I have been playing on a 5 piece pearl export for about 7 years, and I am looking into selling it, and purchasing a new set. I was wondering what kinds of sets you would recommend.

I highly recommend Yamaha drum sets. Granted, it is the only REAL accustic drumset I have ever played (besides Roland TD-20s, which I love dearly as well), but for a good reason.
The Maple Custom Absolute I used to use is in the range of $3,000 - $3,500 (possibly cheaper if you shop around), but it's very worth it. The shells tune up sweetly, like you would not believe. The sound coming out of these thingies is amazing. Yamaha also produces great hardware, so you can beat it up pretty bad and it's still hold up. I have used my Yamaha set for approximately 3.5 years, and during that time have used it in studio and played out almost constantly. The drums performed extremely well.
So there, here is my 5 cents. Good luck with your purchase.

this is extra significant which you recognize how the RACK TOMS ( they was called fixed tom-toms) connect with the bass drum some businesses have a telescope sort pole that hides-away interior the bass drum for the duration of delivery , PEARL replaced into massive in this . different businesses use a very exterior sort fastener this is table certain on the bass drum .. in basic terms ask the drum tech on the save the place you deal . he will know what I mean . All artwork properly while the drums are new, in spite of the undeniable fact that some placed on out because of the fact the drums becore worn by use. you do no longer % the toms sliding down on you for the duration of a drum solo . My drummer friends desire MAPEX or SONOR ......they postpone incredibly properly .

i'd recommend tama drums....It's a great quality and reliable drum brand and each kit has different features. It may be slightly on the expensive side, but it's really a bargain for what you're getting.
