Specific breeds that are good for beginners, terrestrial vs. aquatic, how to care for them, if they make good pets...anything would be appreciated.

I would suggest a White's Tree Frog. They are super cute. They have different skin than most frogs so they can accommodate the oils from our skin so unlike most frogs, they can be handled.

A 20g Long tank would be best or a 10g a terrestrial setup and a big water bowl for soaking. A water fixture for keeping the humidity up would be nice otherwise you'll need to spray the tank down a couple of times a day to keep it humid. You'll need a low powered spot light and if you can, a UV light. They eat crickets and worms.

your fire belly frogs are great for beginners they are very hearty and do great in pairs as you master that them they can be with newts , floating frogs and tree frogs. diet for the fire belly consist of crickets from a pet store , not ones from outside and meal worms on the smaller side. their enviroment should be half land half water with a small filtration system they do need heat so a basking light on the smaller wattage will do such as a 25 watt light, having places for them to hide out is good too such as fake or live plants you can get at your local pet store

I got a pet frog when I was 12 years old. She lived until I was 24, then I neglected her and she passed away (I ws going through a tough time then). I cried a lot. however, she lived for a long, long time and I was happy for that. This is where you can get a tadpole and raise to a frog. That's what I did with her. They have a lifetime guarantee, so if your frog dies, you can get another one for free. I liked this place a lot, you can order friends, toys, treats, and food for your frog. http://www.growafrog.com/
