Hate is a very strong word. I dislike myspace. I opened an account and was totally disappointed with the whole thing. I thought it would be a place where I could make some new friends, join in some good, intelligent, conversations, share ideas with people, etc.........
What I found was a bunch of ego maniacs, disgusting blogs, sexual perverts (IMO) and no one interested in an actual friendship.

I browsed queerspace - I mean myspace - for a couple hours one night when I had nothing better to do, and got in some sort of queer ring - one guy who dresses like a woman and makes himself vomit on stage - a whole bunch of other gays and a few women who get a kick out of them. Yet that is a biased opinion based on one group of friends.
If it weren't for myspace, what else would 12 year-old girls have to do? How else would they make themselves available to perverts and sexual predators? That is what it seems to be primarily for. Toss in a few people dwelling on some other ********, "entertainment", and a whole bunch of people placing what they consider to be music on there, and that is pretty much it.
Well, there are some good pages too ;)

I agree. I dont like Myspace at all. I think it is kind of a fad, that we would be over in a couple of years. On top of that, it's kind of arrogant type of network that popularizes on youth culture. Most people are appalled to hear that I dont have a Myspace. I refuse to join a place that capitalizes and advertises to young kids who could be in danger of the people they meet online. It doesnt promote anything educational, and it emphasizes that if you don't have a Myspace, you're considered "uncool." To me is just part of popular culture, that changes everyday.

And parading your wisdom around isn't shallow?
See? Another perspective, that wasn't so hard was it?
Some people like myself use myspace to keep in contact with people we see less often. It's more personal than email because of bulletins that one can post about daily life and up to date photos. Not everyone uses it to showcase themselves online, and certainly not everyone uses the blog and those who do have personal entires listed as private so as not to show the world their entire lives. There is even an option to make myspace private so only your friends can see your profile. So before you begin catagorizing people as shallow just because they have a myspace you might want to take those things into account.
And for the record... tuna can? Terrible analogy.

I don't hate MySpace, but I don't understand the need for people to post sooo much information about themselves on the internet. Not only do I think it's not safe, but it's a little narcissistic for people to think their lives are so interesting.

Not me! I lost my 2 sons within the past 5 yrs. (ages 30 & 23)and it keeps me in touch w/all their friends. If it wasn't for this, I think I would lose the rest of my sanity. I am not a teenager, I am a grown woman. You can get some pretty stupid & outrageous stuff on there, but you can also get some genuine people that are just there for you, when you need them. I am not shallow, I use the space to share wonderful memories of my boys.

i agree that the whole "comment me" and "hey, add me" stuff is pretty lame...what i do like about it is the fact that i have found LOTS of old friends from grade school and high school (i'm 26)...but i don't get on there and write a bunch of stuff about myself..i'm on there to mainly keep in touch with friends that live away from me and i also write a blog every now and then dealing with my Christianity and trying to witness to people. some people do get out of hand with it, and some people use it to create drama...and i'm not as shallow as a tuna can..have a blessed day =)

I'm sick of the time my daughter spends on it!
But it evens out, she thinks I'm obsessed with Yahoo Answers. (she could be right).
It is an extremely popular site, I don't consider my daughter a shallow person. She keeps in touch with lots of her friends from overseas and shares news, photos, music etc.
She has also reunited with many of her old classmates due to her exposure on Myspace.
