I too think that he would choose Nadal to play. Nadal is the only player who has a winning record against him. There is a little bit of talking about who really is the best player on the pro circuit. I think that Federer wants the chance to beat Nadal and regain his title as the Unanimous number 1 player in the eyes of the fans.

Nadal would seem to be a clear-cut first choice. Considering that Federer may well want the French title even more than Wimbledon (if RF loses Wimbledon before he's won the French it will definitely be his top goal) next year, any win he can get over Nadal gets him closer. Also, he probably is aching to improve the HTH, which could mar the Federer legacy if RF doesn't pass Sampras in majors won.
Second choice would probably be Nalbandian to avenge the loss last year. And given the closer-than-usual matches against Blake and Roddick at the US Open, RF might enjoy giving either of them a good thumping.

he would love to see nadal on the other side of the final.
this would allow him to chop the loosing record and allow him to take some confidence into the clay season next year.
I know fed was kinda disappointed nadal did not come thru to US open final.

I truly believe that Federer doesn't even care. He his a machine, physically, and mentally. I think he believes he can beat anyone so it doesn't even matter to him. He just goes out there and does his job.
