Hmm back in the day I remember reading Where the Red Fern Grows, the Phantom Toll Booth and A Wrinkle In Time series, Everworld is a neat series by K.A. Applegate (same person that wrote Animorphs). Hmm 6th grade was quite a while ago. Hope you find something that interests you.
