Public schools are affectively controlled by the teachers' unions. Now it could be argued that this group is inherently liberal, however, is not necessarily liberal in a political context. Example, if teachers were foremost liberals (and *many* are great, but I am generalizing on the majority) then they would be willing to spend more time in the classroom teaching liberal ideology. Instead, they fight to spend as little time as possible teaching, instead fighting for staff development, etc., -- benefits which keep them out of the classroom and have the effect of provide more pay for less time worked. Those truly dedicated teachers who unfortunately are in the minority, probably are more likely to be liberal than not. But what is controlling public schools is the unions.

Well, having Public schools *is* a liberal concept right? And it is influenced greatly by teachers unions.
But there are are many conservative aspects to public schools. One, it's funded by the State government. Two, I can't use my first amendment to the fullest without getting detention (that's oppression, i swear). Three, funds have been cut. Four, there is no National High School Exit Exam. There are more, of course....

Actually, in truth, elementary schools tend to be more conservative and family oriented. But you're right. Universities are usually quite liberal.
Oh well, I'm not gonna just sit around online whining about it. You keep telling liberals to get over that Bush was elected president, so GET OVER that universities are liberal. Either that or get up and do something. Complaining online won't solve anything.
Your question fails to provoke ANY interesting thought. Just people who agree with you and suck up and the people who think you're wrong and insult you.

if your talking about the schools in the USA then your talking about a giant baby sitting service....and it is dumbing down what they teach all students over the past 20 or so years so the test score can go up.. many other countries have actually gotten smarter and as for the USA..it has not.........
everyone in the USA should get made about this FACT..and fix it..but no one care as long as the children are taken care of and not on the streets or at home...
and for them being run by liberals..they are run by each state's ..cities school boards and then the teachers who have to follow school boards advice and the school boards follow what the state boards tell them ...
good luck

That was not my experience as a teacher at all.
The schools these days are run mostly by the parents. . . or, rather, run by the fear of lawsuits from overly litigious parents. I was forced to pass a child who was caught red-handed plagiarizing, because the principal was too afraid of being sued by her parents. Her religious-right parents.
The liberality or conservatism of a school system, then, is more likely related to how liberal or conservative the community in question is.

Public schools are run by local school boards and for the most part are funded by local citizens.

Well, let's see...
Nationalist curriculum: You have to praise a damn piece of cloth every morning
Lack of freedom to resist: No-hitting policies result in increased bullying and the inability to fight back.
Pro-Christianity slant: Praise for religious fanatics who came into our country and started killing indians centuries ago. Intelligent design is worming it's way in.
However, it should be mentioned, that in argument, one does not have to prove a negative, one must prove a positive. There are many things that aren't, and since they aren't there is no proof that they aren't...

I get the feeling that your mind is already made up that your statement is true. So, there's really no use arguing with you.
I disagree, to a degree, but it IS a little more liberal than I would like it to be.

Everything here is pretty conservative.
I mean, they took evolution out of the classrooms. That's not very liberal, now is it? Liberal, by the true definition, means open minded. It's not very open minded if you can't even offer evolution to the classrooms.
