If you have had a connection before using this hardware try turning the modem off then back on using the power cable. You might also try to do a System Restore to the last day where the system operated properly. This will repair a mirade of problems when you have neither the patience or expertise to troubleshoot and fix more complex problems. If you have never used this hardware:

1) Make sure all the cables are plugged in (sorry).
2) Right mouse click on the connection and select PROPERTIES.
3) Scroll down and select you version of TCP/IP and click the properties button.
4) Ensure you have selected "automatic" assignment of both the IP address and DNS server.

If all of this checks good and the system still does not work:

1) Click the START button and type in RUN
2) Once you get a DOC windows type in the following two commands and press ENTER after each. (Give them a second to complete)

IPCONFIG /RELEASE
IPCONFIG /RENEW

Please! always check your cables! Unplug your cable from the modem to your pc. Make sure to unplug both ends. Replug the cable at both ends. Does the modem lights change? Have you turned off your modem ? When you go to reboot your computer, before you turn your pc on, turn your modem off for about 20 seconds. Then turn it on. After about a minute, turn your pc on. If you still don't have a good connection to the internet try going to the control panel and bring up network connections & run the network troubleshooter. It should give you an answer about your connection.
