I am normally against the death penalty, but I think I might support it for Saddam. Not because of how horrible and vast his murders were, but because if Iraq were to become unstable to the point that he could be freed, he would probably be more dangerous in the future than he was in the past. Does anybody else feel this way?

He was following US orders - no death penalty for Saddam.

Forget for a moment that we're talking Saddam. How can you state that you are normally against the death penalty, but in this case it's acceptable?

You're most certainly entitled to your opinion, and I respect that, I just don't understand it.

You either believe that the death penalty is an acceptable punishment for certain crimes, or you believe that it is wrong to take the life of another human being as punishment.

If one person is found guilty of killing one person and another is found guilty of killing one million people it makes a difference in the application of the death penalty? I just don't see it.

As for Saddam, now you sound like GW. Let's put him to death for what he MIGHT do to retaliate if he's freed? I don't see that either.

Personally, I think the death penalty is suitable to Saddam and can probably come up with a list of convicted murders that should go with him.

Hi there!

I agree that while the "an-eye-for-an-eye" thing is beyond passe and SO Last Century, not to mention Last Millennium...

Think of the surviving families that were also victims of his horrific actions! Wouldn't you want him dead if he had killed your family, friends and loved ones?

We got "Monster No. 2" and he will be made to pay for his crimes against this earth, her people and nature itself.

But where is Osama Bin-Laden?

He killed FIVE of my Innocent friends in the towers on that Tuesday in September 2001. Only one had remains that were identified. The rest were vaporized as they were at the point of impact. Even my cousin lost his life at the pentagon where he worked - we were never close, but he was a family member.

So while I am normally not aggressive and especially not violent, the fact that Saddam murdered all those people in defiance of International Law, has been sentenced to death by his own former government. A fitting end for one of the worst people who ever lived.

(If Hitler wasn't such a coward, his fate would probably have been worse!)

I'm all for the Death Penalty - and for Saddam Hussain I think they should start a new Penalty called the "Torture Penalty" and that's what he should get - TORTURED, VERY SLOWLY AND SEVERLY PAINFULLY.

I feel that if Saddam is executed then he will have died a martyr for his followers, making their passion even stronger. Keeping him jailed outside of Iraq might be a better bet if that were possible. I fear that his followers will become even stronger from this.

NOOOOOOO I am strictly against the death penalty. I think they should rot in prison until they die and then in Hell but we have NO RIGHT to KILL them. THE DEATH PENALTY IS HYPOCRITICAL.
