In the WWF (now WWE) Title match between Bret Hart (challenger)-vs.-The Undertaker (champion), Shawn Michaels (who was the special guest referee) inadvertently hit The Undertaker with a chair when he was aiming for Bret Hart because Bret spit on Shawn's face because Shawn took the chair from him. After the chair shot Bret pinned The Undertaker (Bret's fifth WWF Title reign!) and Shawn had no choice but to give the three count. That is what started the rivalry.

he cheat undertaker out of title so he coude face bret at surivro series 1997 that what i heard.
