We deep fry turkeys every year and that for sure is one tradition I hope we never change. I live in the deep south so every Thanksgiving you can expect the same traditional foods. Last year I went out on a limb and made a carmel pumpkin torte instead of the ol' boring pumpkin pie. I look so forward to Thanksgiving and eating those foods which I don't get year round. Oh... My family has also made hominy casserole a tradition... It goes really great with a fried turkey.
HOMINY CASSEROLE
1 md Onion, chopped
1 Garlic clove, minced
1 tb Cooking oil
1 c (8 ounces) sour cream
3/4 c Shredded cheddar cheese,
-divided
1/4 c Milk
1 cn (4 ounces) chopped green
-chilies
1/4 ts Ground cumin
3 cn (15 ounces each) golden
-hominy, drained
Tony Chachere's Creole seasoning or Zatarain's Creole seasoning to taste
In a small skillet, cook onion and garlic in oil until tender. Remove from heat. In a bowl, combine onion mixture, sour cream, half of the cheese, milk, chilies, cumin and cajun seasoning. Add hominy; mix well. Pour into a greased 2-qt. baking dish. Bake, uncovered, at 350! for 30 minutes or until heated through. Sprinkle with
remaining cheese. Serve immediately.
You need to get the Tony's it works miracles on food and you'll never find a kitchen in the south that doesn't have it! Happy Turkey Day!

Last year, I cooked for the first time ever. (I was depressed because I hadn't been invited to my parent's house, so I went a little crazy...) I made a Turducken (Turkey stuffed with Duck, stuffed with Hen) and it was stuffed with seafood.
It cost, like $50, was pre-made, so all I had to do was heat it up in the oven. It was so good ( a little spicy, though) and no one died from food poisoning!
I do have a hint for anyone who plans on making one of these themselves, though... let it defrost in the fridge like the instructions say to... I didn't and it literally took forever to cook. We almost starved to death while waiting for the turkey:(
I also ordered carrot souffle for dessert and made all of my favorites.
(It didn't make up for being without my family, but it was nice:)
