The gunpowder plot to blow up Parliament by a Catholic dude named Guy Fawkes. He and some cohorts wanted to blow up Parliament to protest the oppression of Catholics. However, one of the Parliament members happened to be Catholic and one of them sent a letter to him. This led to an inspection of the gunpowder cache ready to blow up the Parliament building and Guy Fawkes and his crew were arrested and most were tortured and killed.
