A 1998 Ford Tarus. The transmission goes out of gear when i stop. Have to put in park then change back to drive for it to take gear. Have Change Transmission filter.

The linkage might be out of adjustment. The engine/transmission moving a tiny bit forward when you stop, and then settling back could be enough to kick it out of gear.

SOunds like a solenoid is weak, and can't hold its position.

its slipping gears, your gonna need to have it rebuilt, or get a new tranny, it will only get worse
