10 years ago we received freezing rain - 15 inches in a matter of hours.

Numerous television and radio towers toppled over due to weight of the ice which formed on the support cables - the cables are approx. 3/4" and with the ice, they measured 6-8" in diameter!

Power outages were statewide - and some people were without power for up to two weeks following the storm.

Driving was treacherous.

Several roofs collapsed and many that didn't leaked badly enough to cause extensive damage inside the buildings. The ice build up simply pushed up and under the shingles.

However, as mentioned in another one of your answers, in the end, when the rain stopped, it was absolutely beautiful. Everything sparkled and glowed in the sunlight.

Needless to say, the means didn't justify the end.

you like freezing rain? Freezing rain is the worst kind of winter precip. Freezing rain is rain that freezes on contact of a surface. It is impossible to drive on. Sleet hits pavement, and bounces off so its not that bad. And snow is beautiful and not too dangerous. Freezing rain is the worst kind you can get. It lands on power lines and the power goes out. It is pretty on trees and stuff, i will say that. But it is the most dangerous. Freezing rain can do more damage than a category 2 hurricane. It can land on houses and the weight from the ice can make your roof cave in, etc.

not only does freezing rain coat everything in ice, as the ice gets heavier it starts to break power lines and tree limbs putting lots of people at risk of freezing to death. Not to mention it takes a lot of hard work and time to scrape off a car that has been coated with ice

It is very heavy and weighs down tree branches that can fall on houses as well as power lines. power lines can come down due to the weight of the ice. It also makes the roads a mess. It makes everything look beautiful though.

If you like it so much, the next time there's freezing rain in your area, get in your car and drive until you slide into an oncoming car. I'll bet that'll cure you!!

Icy roads, which when bad enough, the salt takes forever to work. Power lines, trees, etc are pulled down. If you live where it gets very cold your electricity is usually out. Are you sure you weren't thinking about something else?
