In old Christianity-witches, their familiars, and the devil
in witchcraft-magic, astral sight, and the mother goddess
to ancient Egyptians- Ra, the god of the sun and his daughter Bast, the cat goddess
The large cats, like panthers and jaguars, were also considered by many North and South American tribes to possess various spiritual abilities, some of the most noteworthy being the abilities to move through the spirit world, and also to sense the presence of ghosts/spirits in this one.

A symbol of vigilance, sensuality and transformation. Cat were and still are linked to women and blamed for their negative and malicious temperament hence the word catty to characterize unpleasant, gossipy and slanderous females. As with any feminine worship object, cats too are associated with lunar goddesses and were tutelary spirits. Black cats were feared to be unlucky, while cats in general were often used in witchcraft as the embodiment of the devil himself, They were also felt to be vessels of demonic spirits or familiar spirits and used in satanic rituals and orgies. Cats are a famous pet of witches.
