Probability is the measure of how likely an event is. Is is given by the formula:
P = (The Number Of Ways an Event Can Occur) divided by (The Total Number Of Possible Outcomes)

1) To find the probability for a pen to be selected from the first box, you write the number of pens over the total number of items in the box. So:

2 (number of pens) / 10 ( total items in the box)

which reduces to 1/5.

2) To find the probabilty for a marker to be selected from the second box, you do the same thing.
2 (markers) / 5 ( total items in the box) which cannot be reduced.

The answers are 1/5 and 2/5.
Hope this helps ;-)

Tfhe probability of choosing a pen from box one is 2 in 10 or 1/5. The probability of choosing a marker from the 2'nd box is 2 in 5 or 2/5. The *joint* probability is the product of these, so (1/5)*(2/5) = 2/25.

Out of 25 tries, it would happen 'on average' twice.

P (pen 1st box) = 2/10

P (marker 2nd box) = 2/5

Therefore the probability that a pen is pulled from the 1st box and a marker pulled from the 2nd box is:

P(pen 1st box) * P(marker 2nd box) = 2/10 * 2/5 = 4/50 = 0.08

ANSWER: P = 0.08

P(pen 1st box)=2/10
P(marker 2nd box)=2/5
P(pen) AND P(marker)= (2/10)X(2/5)=(4/50)=2/25

IF either event, P(pen) OR P(marker)=(2/10) + (2/5)=3/5

total number of items: 15= bottom of fraction
number of pens and markers in both: 5= top of fraction

5/15 reduces to 1/3

i believe its, 2/25
cause the first box is 2/5's and the second is 1/5 so together they are 2/25's
