Network card is just a device to connect your computer in a network environment like your office. It connect's your laptop to the main server so you could do internet, company mails, etc. But if your just working at home it's not necessary. Unless you have a network and a server system at home. When you disconnect your AC adaptor your network card is also disable to save battery and also prolong battery life.
