No you can't. I hate to see people do that.

Not for me....everytime I change lanes I ALWAYS end up in the slowest lane and with no chance to get back into the fast one...then when I finally can get into the other lane it becomes the slowest lane. The same thing always happens to me with the check out lines in stores.

No. Straight an steady in one of the faster lanes will get you there faster - I have passed the lane changers. The weaving in and out will get you busted by Smokey faster than speeding will.
And it is often counterproductive, as you will eventually get behind the slower moving people and can get blocked in by the boxes - especially if they see you coming. Truckers HATE "weavers". and will deliberately box you in.

According to my high school geometry teacher the shortest distance between two points was a straight line. So if the straight line involves switching lanes I'd say yes.

perhaps by a few minutes, but meanwhile, you are adding so much more risk of accidents, and making others mad, more likely to be pulled over for not signaling or something, i dont think its worth it unless the person in front of you is going really really really slow or its like a semi truck

Nope, you may feel like it at first, but then you end up next to the same person at the next light.
