Go to the history icon the one that looks like a clock with a backwards arrow click on it,right click on the folder of the day you want to remove and click delete.

I am quite not sure what question are you talking about, if i am not mistaken, maybe you are asking about how to delete search history in IE, i can show you how to do it with IE7, with IE6 there is alittle bit different.
from internet window, go to Tools -> Internet Options, in tab General, look at the Browsing History and click to delete, a new window named Delete Browsing History will appear, look at the title History, and click delete History, press OK to confirm.
you can delete Temporary Internet Files as well to make IE works faster.

Aletrnatively if you dont want to erase ALL the history from your PC. Press Ctrl + H and delete the websites you dont want any1 to see. Also its usually a good idea to clear your cookies too.

Click on the search bar you will get a drop down move cursor over the first one then press delete until all is gone.
