Males tend to be stronger and faster.

I hate people that disagree with this statement and feel it's a put down to women. It's not, it's genetics, it happens, why is it so hard to grasp?

Men athletes have an opportunity to move into highly lucrative professional careers. True, this is a tiny fraction of men, probably way less than 1% but it seems to do a couple of things:

They sometimes are not as committed to academics as women athletes. Now I am not saying men don't study but I can look at my university where graduation rates for men's football and basketball is much lower than 50% while women on athletic scholarships graduate at a 80% rate.

In university sports the money is made from football and basketball. They tend to fund all the other sports with TV rights, tournament money (In the ACC and other leagues, I guess, all NCAA tournament money and bowl appearances are shared with everyone in the conference.) Consequently, more publicity and money go into these programs although Title IX has helped tremendously, giving more money to women's sports.

It's a tough road to compete at such a high level and still keep up academically. True scholar-athletes certainly have my respect.

Strength and speed. The men have more. It's just how it is. Therefore men's sports are more popular too. It's true, but people don't like to agree.
