Buy a sleep mask to block out the light. WoW is very addictive and night is the primary time to play. He isn't likely to just 'turn it off and go to bed.' Honestly, you'll probably get used to it one way or another; if you can get used to drunken parties and screaming girlfriends you can sleep through WoW (unless your roomie is a jerk and turns up the volume real loud).

I'm sorry, but anyone who thinks that 'hall' means you have to sleep in a big hall with 200 students is lacking common sense. The word hall originally meant a large open space but as time went on, partitions were put into halls to make rooms, thus a hall became a space in which you have to walk through in order to get to other rooms. This is essentially what a dorm building is: a giant hall that has been sectioned off into separate rooms for each student. It could also come from the fact that when universities first started to pop up, students did live in the original definition of a hall. The name was kept and it became tradition to name the buildings "_______ Hall" after whoever gave the college money to build the building. Also, as others have said, the term 'hall' is for the entire building, not the rooms. The rooms are called rooms, or dorm rooms.

Let him know you think it's coll he's into these games but you are having trouble sleeping with the monitor. Suggest that he turn it to face the opposite wall as your bed and help him rearrange the room if he is up for it. You could also help him build a little hood for the monitor so the light doesn't reflect everywhere. Just be really friendly about it. You could also suggest that he get other people into the game by hooking it up in the common room and holding tournaments so the monitor isn't in your room. Or he could just play it out there. Chances are he is one of those late night gamers who has a hard time falling alseep earlier. As long as you present a solution while you tell him about your need to get some sleep earlier you should be ok. You could even make a joke that people might be more interested in watching him play in the common room than watching you drool on the couch out there. I think he'll be happy you were respectful when telling him.
