I'm looking for recommendations on finding the best udon in Tokyo. I would be especially interested in a restaurant that serves kitsune udon since that's my girlfriend's favorite kind.

MIMIU is good.
Udon/Sukiyaki. There's one Kyobashi station near Ginza.
And there's one in Shinjuku by the Minami Guchi. At least there was one a few years ago.

But Yashima in Shibuya is probably my fav.

You go straight on Center-gai in Shibuya, continue on until the Suppon (Turtle) restaurant is on your left. It's the building next to it. Go down the flight of stairs and it'll be on your left. (I think it was accross the street from that big arcade place. Was it QUATTRO? or something like that.)
They open from 11:00AM and close when they run out of udon noodles. Seriously, this place has been around for ages. First time I went was 10 years ago and the udon have not changed. Make sure to try the tempura. Pour some of the sauce they have on the table and enjoy. Best udon in Tokyo.

Also the interior of the place is decorated with antique knick-knacks of the Showa era so it's fun looking around while you wait for your food.

Try MIMIU. They have 4 restaurants in Tokyo, Shinbashi, Kyobashi, Shinagawa, and Shinjuku. Phone 03-3503-3350(Shinbashi branch). They are Osaka based high end udon restaurant (means expensive, try lunch time). Rough budget I think dinner $50, lunch $15 per person food only.

Ogikubo is the go-to neighborhood for ramen, but I don't know if there is a specific udon neighborhood. Here's what I would do-go to a Kirin City etc. for a beer and ask the barman what's good in that area.

Take a look at the review for Buzenbo which is located at Naka Meguro.
