Which figure?

Rectangle, Square = base * Height.
Triangle = base * height / 2
Circle = Pi *R^2

For a rectangle or square, it is just length times width. Not squared.

Think of it this way. I have my little rectangle of stars here:

* * * *
* * * *

It is 4 stars by 2 stars. You take 2 (length or also called height) times 4 (width) and you get 8. If you count those stars, you can see that it's 8.

For triangles, circles, and other figures such as parallelograms etc there are different formulas for area.

Triangles: A = 1/2bh (one half base times height)
Circle: pi r squared (3.1415 times radius times radius)

Etc.

Rectangles are length x width x height (LWH)

Triangles are 1/2height x base (1/2bh)

Circles are 2 x pi x R (2piR)

Squares are side squared (side x side)

Trapezoid is 1/2 height, base 1 + base 2 (1/2h [b1 +b2])

Rectangle and Square: Length x Width

Triangle: (1/2)base(height)

errr... or is it another polygon?
