He has a number of problems to do and it's been years since I've done algebra (at least with fractions). The anwer would be fine but I really need the steps to work it out so he can do the rest of them . Thanks in advance:
21=-3/2(x-2). That is, 21 equals negative 3 divided by 2, times x minus 2. Thanks again.

you distribute the -3/2 to the x and 2 and get 21= -3/2x+3
subtract 3
18=-3/2x
times each side by its reciprocal which would be -2/3
18x-2/3=-12
so x= -12

21=-3/2(x-2)
42=-3(x-2) <-- multiply by 2 to clear the fraction
42=-3x+6 <---- distribute the 3
36=-3x <---- subtract 6 to both sides (6-6=0)
-12=x <---- divide both sides by -3 to get "x"

multiply both sides by -(2/3)

-(42/3) =(x-2)

Add 2 to both sides

2- (42/3)= x

So

x = (6/3)-(42/3)

x = -36/3 = -12

Check:

-(3/2)(-12-2)= -1.5(-14) = 21

21= -3/2(x-2)
turn -3/2 into a decimal- -1.5
21= -1.5(x-2)
use the distributive property to get rid of the ()
wut u do is mult. -1.5 by x and -2
21= -1.5x+3
subtract 3 on both sides
18= -1.5x
divide both sides by -1.5
12=x or x=12

Your son needs to ask his teacher for help.

And you can go to a good bookstore, and the paper supply/computer supply store and get a MATH cd. Use it in the privacy of your home and goes from grades 9 through 12...and so forth....it's great!

I cannot do your son's homework without telling his teacher!
