I am an investor in the US, but I know the wind turbine maker, Clipper Windpower, trades on the London Alt Investment market. They have been doing some great work in the development of new turbine technology, and are working with BP to possibly create some wind farms. Worth a closer look.
I think the best way to start investing is to first see what the best traders are buying and selling. This is the idea behind the site http://www.top10traders.com - this is a free site that lets you create a portfolio of stocks with $100,000 in "play" money. Each day the site ranks the best performing portfolios, so you can see how your picks perform compared to other investors. You can also read posts on investing from the best traders, as well as share your own investing ideas.
Here are this month's best traders:
http://www.top10traders.com/Top10Standings.aspx
Just click on any trader's name to see what they have in their portfolio.
Good luck.

Do you think I told you if I knew ;-)
Buying is stock is an important decision, the best stock is the one that grows small but steadily..; Or through speculation but only if you have a very reliable source (a friend on the top management of the company).
Can recommend The Motley Fool for advice: www.fool.com

I am not too versed in the shares trading on the London exchange but I should imagine that British Petroleum would be a decent acquisition.

Consider where you're asking for investment advise. Total strangers. You've got to be kidding!

Subscribe to an investing magizine. But seeing that you are asking Yahoo Answers, don't invest your money because it is obvious that you will lose it all.
