You will need to search for the system specs on your specific motherboard. It will be written on the motherboard or you can check with sandrasisoft or something comparable. Then check the manufacturers website to see what the best processor it supports is. It is often the case though that for the money (price per performance) you are better off bailing on what you have and getting something better.

Hope this helps and GL :-)

Only in the used items market. Athlon´ s been dead for some time now and newer procs won´ t fit in the socket. You should easily find a faster proc though, When you do try to make it at least 50% faster. Preferably double if your board supports it. Otherwise you won´ t see a big difference in performance at all. Also, adding some memory might add considerable perf, xp has a minimum of 256. Some used boards can be found for a bargain too. You might try to get a matching pair. Good luck.

I think that Athlon of yours is a Thunderbird. Its a very old classic, was a good one. I think the fastest Thunderbird (or T-bird) is a 1.4 GHz one. You can try find one in ebay I guess.

However in ebay I can only find 1.2 Ghz ones. Not a worthy upgrade. I will suggest adding more RAM also.

Anyway, the best way is to upgrade to the current technology. C'mon. Give yourself a break.

Your serious problem is the ram. Leave every as it is and by another at least 512. With 256 you can do anything even running a browser!!!!!!!!!!!

You would be much better off upgrading the memory - at least double, preferably more. That will be a much better use of your cash than upgrading the processor.
