They are probably eating too fast from the yummy placenta. It's essential that the tiny hungry babies eat at a sensible speed to prevent hic-ups but they don't listen until they are at the stage of 30-years-old. The best thing to do to help the greedy gits inside that scary dark womb is to shout "EAT SLOWLY YOU GREEDY LITTLE PIG!!!" but make sure your partner doesn't see or hear you as he'll think you're a silly *****. But yes, it's strange how babies hiccough in the womb.

yes it is,
but even interesting to hear that twins fight inside the womb to share things!!
Twins, a sister and brother were talking to each other in the womb. The little sister said to the little brother: ‘I believe that there is life after birth!’ Her brother protested: ‘No, no, this is all there is. This is a dark and cosy place, and we have nothing else to do but to cling on to the cord that feeds us.’ But the little girl insisted: ‘There must be something more than this dark place, there must be something else where there is light and freedom to move.’ Still she could not convince her twin brother. Then...after some silence, she said hesitantly: ‘I have something else to say, and I am afraid you won’t believe that either, but I think there is a mother!’ Her little brother now became furious: ‘A mother, a mother, what are you talking about? I have never seen a mother and neither have you. Who put that idea in your head? As I told you, this place is all we have so let’s be content.’ The little sister finally said: ‘Don’t you feel this pressure sometimes? Its really unpleasant and sometimes even painful.’ ‘Yes,’ he answered, ‘what’s special about that?’ ‘Well,’ the sister said, ‘I think this pressure is there to get us ready for another place, much more beautiful than this, where we will see our mother face to face! Don’t you think that’s exciting!.

It's such a nice feeling, and yes, it makes you want to go through it all over again. I remember being pregnant and driving to work at 3am listening to music and the baby would start hiccoughs. It was such a nice feeling and made me chuckle. Aaaah, babies, the most precious things in the world. Thanks for initiating the topic, I'm sure a lot of mums will put their thoughts and feelings down on this one.

yes it is adorable! It's not practice though,
"Fetal hiccups and yawns appear to be necessary for normal airway development during the first trimester of pregnancy, Dr. Richard Roberts of Signal Mountain, Tennessee, reported at the annual meeting of the American College of Medical Genetics in Miami, Florida.
Roberts, of the Genetics and Prenatal Diagnostic Center, formerly located in Chattanooga, believes that first trimester fetal yawn and hiccup reflexes may help prevent certain structural problems in the lungs and trachea through pressure variations.
These reflexes push amniotic fluid back and forth, "just like a plumber's helper," he said. Roberts has documented hiccuping as early as 10 weeks and yawning at 11 weeks gestation, a practice that continues in the 2nd and 3rd trimester of pregnancy.
We yawn and hiccup simply because we have to during fetal development, Roberts said. After birth, these reflexes continue.
"All air-breathing creatures yawn and hiccup," he added, suggesting that the reflexes are important for basic survival. "

It is weird. Mine only seems to do when I was trying to go to sleep.
My daughter used to pound like a cat from the inside. That was a strange sensation.

Yeah it is! Little spasms of joy from baby to be- least we know they dont cause any discomfort in babies as they do with adults.
