I want to become a gymnast! (kinda). i want to be able to do cartwheel, and roundoffs and other things like back handsprings, handstands, and other difficult things. . i know how to do cartwheels/roundoffs but i cant get my legs straight. i am now a teenager and i want to take gymnastic lessons agian, but my mom says that im too old, and i will be with the little kids learning level. is this true? Also if i hang upside down on my bed with my hands on the floor and kick over, would that be helping me? Any tips and answers will be appreciated. Thanks!

You're aren't too old, to go competitive to Olympics, maybe, but not too old to do gymnastics!

The hanging upside down this would help, that's like a back bend kick over and a back walk over which Will later help with back handsprings.

Tell your mom people older than you start and do gymnastics, in their 20's even, and tell her all the benefits of gymnastics. Good for your body (keeps you healthy and away from drugs and alcohol - - for the most part), you get to meet knew people and friends...just to try and convince her.

If she won't let you, try out for cheerleading at school, you don't HAVE to know gymnastics to get in, and they can help you!

I hope that your mom lets you and that you become a good gymnast! Good luck and have fun!

Yes it is helping. however you wont be equipped to do flips and stuff in a single day so it's going to take plenty of dedication and time. Its tough to get into critical gymnastics while you're older, above all for women; so much gymnasts that compete were doing the game for his or her complete lives. But any sort of gymnastics, even leisure is helping with force, flexibility..

Almost every gym has teenage tumbling classes for beginners since lots of cheerleaders take them. So you wouldn't have to be with little kids. And yeah, you could still learn backhandsprings and stuff; it will just be a little harder than it would be if you were younger.

You're way too old to start competitive gymnastics (with vault, bars, beam, and floor), but you can definitely still learn the tumbling that you want! Have fun!

Edit: Oh yeah, and the hanging thing might help a little with bridges and walkovers, but be careful 'cause it would be safer to practice your moves in a real gym.

Join the local cheerleading class they combine gymnastics with dance. They will teach you how to stretch and how to do the stunts. No you're not too old... of course it does help when you start earleier. It will be just a bit more dificcult to get stretched for it now.

Good Luck

your not to old...you will be with the little kids when you start but you will gradually get with the older kids. I started when i was 12 and i was with all the little kids but they weren't that younger than me..and it won't help you much with the flexibility you need but it will help with the stomach muscles.
