Babies from what i was told by my own pediatrician can see, but not in a way that they can tell what they are looking at. When the babies are born they see this all blurry, like the silhouette of the person that is in front of them. Its not until later that they start to see things. One thing that i do know is that the first things that they can see, when they start to see, is black and white.

Babies can see,but their vision is blurred, they only see colours and outlines, until they're about 6 weeks old.
That's why you notice them taking more interest in there surroundings
When they are first born, you would have to speak for your baby to see you, once there vision improves, they look for you automatically.

Not really. Their eyes are not focused at birth, and, they do not have the ability to understand what they are seeing. As they get older, the eyes begin to focus and they can follow movement and blurs. Then in a short time they can see clearly and shortly after that, recognize and remember faces and objects.

yes but blurry and not farther away then 10-12 inches away this is y stores sell the toys and rattles with black and white stripes because those colors stand out more till the babe is older and can focus better

Immediately after birth they can see quite clearly and are alert for a couple hours. But they don't get their full vision until they're around 12 months old.

When my son was born the nurse took him to a small table and I swear to God his beautiful black eyes looked at me with recognition in them. Bulls*** to those that say different.
I should explain I spent each day talking to him in my wifes stomach telling him who I was and how I was waiting for him etc.
We are so close it's unbelievable, expectant dads give it a try, it will pay dividends.

Yes, but they can't focus clearly very far away yet. I think they can focus within about 12-18 inches early on.

And if the lights are bright, it will cause them to shut their eyes. They prefer a dim room.

Not immediatly, I mean come on, do you think the baby would enjoy looking at it's mommy's *ahem* while the mom is still pregnant. Anyways, fluids would block the baby's vision.

They can see, but it's blurred... they get by on smells and sounds that are familiar to them.
They begin to focus though at about 6 weeks.
