reflux is very serious with some infants and should only be addressed by a gi specialist. I have a baby who spent 5 months in and out of the hospital from gi and breathing troubles from reflux.
swtich to dr browns bottles, prevacid is the only med that worked for my baby but there is axid and zantac out there too, just werent strong enough for the severity of my childs reflux. thicken the feedings with rice cereal (1-2 tablespoons per ounce if needed to be that thick) hold upright or sit up right during and 30 min after feedings, let them sleep in the swing, car seat, or elevate the head of the crib for them to sleep, make sure that the baby doesn't have an allergy to the cows milk and or soy that is agrovating the reflux (mine had severe reflux and allergies) there are prescription formulas out there (neocate and ellecare) mine is on ellecare.
but the most important is find a ped gi specialist they wil be able to help you more than anything
my little guy is 14 months old and doing much much better, after we found the right gi doc we were hospital stay free and fuss free from then til now.
by the way milk scans are olkay but the gold standard in diagnosing reflux is ph probe studies, and doing a scope...
a milk scan is only about 50 percent accurate (i am a medical professional also)

First you need to make sure it is acid reflux. A milk scan is the only way to know for sure so ask your ped. to get one done. All three of my kids had it and this is what I did and what I found out you shouldn't do. I was told by my ped. to put a little rice in the bottles to thicken up the formula, Enfamil also makes an AR (added rice) Formula, but that was a little too thick for my kids. My kids were also prescribed Zantac and that worked great. Try to burp often and keep head elevated for about 30 minutes after feeding. You do not want to put your baby in a car seat or swing after eating because this position puts too much pressure on the babies stomach and will cause your baby to have a reflux episode. Bouncy seats are okay because they are more inclined and do not put any pressure on the stomach. The Dr. Browns bottles are good for colic but not reflux. Reflux is due to the pyloric sphincter muscle not closing and food coming back up the babies esophagus. It doesn't matter what bottle you use it is still goign to happen. The Dr. Browns bottles are good for colic because they reduce the amount of air that gets into the babies stomach. Reflux has nothing to do with the amount of air a baby takes in while feeding.

You might try letting your baby sit in there bouncy seat, car seat or swing for about 30 after eating. Make sure that you baby isn't laying flat when you feed. If you are formula feeding you might want to try a different bottle. Dr. Brown and Parent's Choice bottles are really good bottles for acid reflux. Don't shake the formula, instead stir the it. Make sure that you burp the baby really well, also.

I suffer from acid reflux as well- Drinking or eating anything before bed causes worse reflux. Try not to eat or drink at least an hour or two before bed. With regards to the inflammation- dairy causes mucus- in other words more phlegm. So drinking milk would in effect make your throat more inflamed. But everyone is different, so experiment a bit with having it and not having it- see what works for you.

Our pediatrician prescribed Zantac for out 7 week son, and it really worked. He spit up less and the pain and fussiness stopped within 2 days. There are no home remedies that I am aware of for infant reflux, so I'd let the Ped. decide. Also, Zantac has no side effects, even in a healthy baby, so it's worth a try! Good luck.

my son had acid reflux when he was about 3 weeks old. He was given previcid and when he drank a bottle he had to do it sitting up. He also had to sleep in his car seat for awhile by the time that he was 3 months old it was gone. Just like that.

If you carry star mints, those red and white hard mints, you can drop one in a bottle of water and it settles baby's tummy fast.
