My friend is labled as profoundly gifted at 175+. If you are in that range, are you really that much more apt to learn than a person with an IQ of 160. Online IQ tests don't count just for clarifacation. Once, you reach a certain level, don't you take in information at the same rate?

Once, you reach a certain level, it is my interpretation that you break down problems the same way. You might not always take in information at the same rate, but remember it the same way.

Well, most of the people I know have an IQ of 15 IQ points less than me, and I can tell there is a huge difference in learning abilities. It is sort of like the difference between driving in 4th gear and 5th gear.

Now regarding the question above, I am not sure that the difference would be very clear at such high IQ level. Both 160 and 175 are in the top 1%(probably even top 0.5%) of IQ.

Another things is that sometimes, if these two people were to take the same test again, they would end up with the same score. Or if they took a different test, the scores might be reversed.

I think one of the better IQ tests in this IQ range is the test provide d by the International High IQ society.

Statistically speaking, there's no real difference between a 160 and 170+. It just means your friend got a few more questions right than you did. You are both in the top 99.9 percent (although on an online test, it is likely they don't have adequate enough norms to answer that question). The question of taking information in at the same rate assumes you and your friend are gifted in the same way. On basic IQ tests, there are 3-4 factor that go into the overall intelligence score. I've seen people score really high on the verbal portions, but just high average on the nonverbal reasoning portions. They still got an overall IQ in the gifted range, but obviously, the overall score doesn't tell the entire story.

If you look at the Horn-Catell or the C-H-C model, there are many different types of intelligence. Thus it may be impossible to determine if two people take in information at the same rate. All the different types of intelligence may make for a slightly or vastly different learning profile.
