Selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors such as fluoxetine are good for some people with depression but do not suit others, particularly young people. If you experience any side-effects with which you are uncomfortable, you should see your GP immediately.
Like many types of anti-depressants, the effects take a while to kick in and sometimes you may feel worse before you start feeling better.
Depending on the nature of the problem(s), it may be useful to have some kind of talking therapy as well (or instead of drugs) to help get to the root of the problem and to cope with successfully. Drugs deal with symptoms, not causes, but can help you over a bad patch.

I used it and had very few problems except heartburn occasionally. First 2-3 weeks I felt very tired but got over this. Seem to work OK!

I used it for about 2 years then updated to citralopram, very similar but more effective. Have had no problems with either. In fact i think it'd be fairly true to say that going on them probably saved my life.

yes, it works very well but you must give it a week or two to take effect. Since it's generic Prozac, it should be relatively cheap. Might even be covered under Walmart's $4 prescription plan

Yes. They worked for me - but it took about fifteen days to notice the effects.

One nasty side effect though - they give you terrible indigestion (acid heartburn)
