I am a teacher so I'll give you tips on what I think a good t.a. does.
A good t.a. will :
Be there right at the start of the lesson and not be late.
Listen to the teacher's introduction to the lesson so they know what the children will be doing
Will have asked the teacher how she can best use you
Be willing to help with anything
Will interact with the children at their level, be friendly and approachable.
Be patient.
Will ask the teacher if there is something in the subject matter they do not understand, better that than to guess and teach the children the wrong thing!
Will not rush off as soon as the kids are out the door at the end of the day. Offer to tidy up or whatever, just say anything I can do?
Will discuss any issues that arose during the day with the teacher.
Will smile
Like children.
Don't panic, after reading all this, it's what would be expected from an experienced ta. I think willingness is the key thing.
I'm sure you're going to enjoy your Wednesdays and I wish you lots of luck.

I hate people who think that teaching is easy. It's not. It's challenging, frustrating but can be very rewarding at times. Just remember that you are working with people. Always keep your cool, be yourself, do your best and never get mad. It's really important to have a good communication with the teachers and the school staff.
It's really good that you're volunteering before you work, you'll develop some skills. There are no real advice that can be given to you because any teacher learns to teach really when they are stuck all alone in front of a class. It comes with experience and it's always different depending on who is sitting in front of you. So, don't stress yourself out too much, I'm sure everything will be alright since you seem happy to do it. Good luck.

Arrive smartly dressed, introduce yourself to the class and whatever you do, DO NOT LET THEM SEE YOU ARE NERVOUS OR AFRAID. Your life will be a misery if they see this, depending on the little darlings age group. The younger they are the more accepting they are. The older, know it all, don't want to learn, can't teach me a thing, age group will test you to the limit. If you don't break they will give you grudging respect.. Take your lead from the teacher in charge. He/she has been through the mill long before you and is still there.

Shame Alanc_59 got a thumbs down it made me laugh, and lets be honest the spelling is shocking in the question. I moved into teaching a few years ago in FE, I'm now quite involved with 14 - 16 provision. My advice is be open minded honest and willing to do what ever you can, try to understand the needs of the students they are the important ones, don't let the teacher dump on you. Enjoy!

It's a pretty easy job to do. The best thing you can do is to ask the teacher what he/she would like you to do and that will give you a good idea of where to start. Just help out wherever you can with grading or filing stuff and help the teacher to keep the kids on track with their work.

The most important thing you must have is be willing to do it, if you do the things you like the most ( like teaching to me ) is like not to have a job, let's say that you could do it for free, then you will be so happy doing it, that all details won't matter.
Try to do your job because you like it, you enjoy it, otherwise do something else.
Enjoy, : )
