Make sure there is gas. Sounds simple, but I have done it. Make sure the gas switch is on the primary and not on reserve. The starter is connected properly....The key and ignition is all turned on. If it was riden all day the day before it may have knocked something very simple loose and not letting it start. Check all the connections.....

Not that I've ever done it, but it's hard to believe how many people try to start their bikes for an hour with the kill switch off.
