Yes, Pyramid Schemes are illegal, but not ALL pyramid schemes. ONly the ones that are so topheavy as to prevent anyone down the pyramid from making any money. Yes, I have heard of Team National (my uncle belongs to it). I do not know if they're under investigation. I know very little about them, but they appear to be similar to Amway, a legal pyramid scheme-type business.

The following link from the Federal Trade Commission discusses the differences between an illegal pyramid scheme and a multilevel marketing plan (legit):

Dear Realist: Perdendos's answer is very informative and helpful.
However, Pyramid Schemes have a defined structure. Those who "on top" of the scheme are using others to make them more money.
If you look at the structure of governments and structured religions they operate on the pyramid system. The rich get richer and the poorer get poorer. Remember the old "trickle down theory"? That sure hasn't worked now has it?
Beware of any organization that requires $$$$ to become a member!! As well as, asking for personal or financial info.
Many of the Internet companies provide information on scams
they are aware of.
Always - Follow the flow of money before you decide.
You can also contact your State Dept. of Consumer & Business Services.
Best of Luck - Hope this helps,
Anita

Pyramid schemes are also known as multi-level marketing campaigns and NEVER a good thing. Beware.

They are illegal, of course.

They just let some time waiting and then come back again with fraudulent operations, some innocent ( naive ? ) people get caught.
The easy money hook is irresistible for some.

Take care of all easy-money companies, whatever they promise.
