The ads seem to be absolute truth.
Apples and Macs run a version of Unix with your account on the computer as a simple user, without access to the system files, so it is almost totally immune to virus, malware, etc.
Believe me when I say that if a person could find a way to crack Unix, Linux, Mac (DarwinBSD Unix), the advertising world would take notice! And Unix has been here since 1969, before Microsoft, so there has been plenty of time to try to crack it!
Macs cost 25% less than equivalent Dell systems, AFTER their $100 REBATE, and BEFORE you count that the new MAC PROs come with an extra Gigabyte of RAM memory, worth about $149 on today's market!
So, there is SECURITY, VALUE, and, the applications just work!
NO CRASHING in the middle of your work!!!
Next, Consumers Reports has lauded Apple for the quality of the WARRANTY and SERVICE you get, in THREE CONSECUTIVE ISSUES of their CU REPORTS magazine!
Now, the ONLY way to beat ALL that, is if you:
1. Knew a little about computers, like, read Computers for Dummies books,
2. were able to ask experts for their advice 24/7/365, on the Internet,
3. could put the MAC OS X on a very cheap, or donated, computer!!!
OOPS! That is exactly what you can do for FREE!
the answers are here:
Q1. The BOOKS are always a part of http://pclinuxos.com!
On the desktop, and on the Internet!
Q2. The forums, on the website, are worldwide, so users are always on them! Folks from Noobs (New Bees!), to Programmers exchange info!
Q3. http://pclinuxos.com is Mandriva Linux based, with 1900 FREE games and applications, that runs on ALL Intel X86 computers from a 300 Mhz system with 128 Mb of RAM, to the latest multi-core Intel Duo!
So, I love the MAC commercials, which apply equally to Mac OS X and to GNU/Linux, and I run ~74 Linux systems, and ~6 Mac systems on my LAN. I will run more as they are left on curbside, or in the dumpster.
The majority on my LAN are Intel X86 boxes because people get disgusted at the problems, the viruses, and the expenses of trying to get the computer to work right, and are fed up, dump that one curbside, and go out and buy a new one!
I am now getting systems only two and three years old! Excess stuff goes to the children, churches, charities, schools.

I think those comercials are aimed toward younger computer purchasers. Once you are out of school and enter "the real world" you find out that 90+% of work settings use PCs. Until you are there though you wouldn't necessarily know that.
I've heard all my life how "user friendly" macs are suppose to be but I've only used PCs and when I've tried to use macs I have to say I didn't get what their supposed advantage is suppose to be. Hate their mouse design and didn't like the graphics either.
So count me as unconvinced.
And don't forget all the apps where there is no mac version.
Bottom line, I wouldn't be in the market for a mac anyway. I wonder what the response is of people who are on the fence as to their next computer purchase?

Good Question.
I wondered the same thing myself. I am a mac user myself (because I always used a mac, and macs seem to do more of what I am looking for i.e. A/V applications such as iTunes etc). But I don't like the commercials. Especially the one where they protray the mac as the cool hip guy and the PC as an overweight buffoon in a suit. First off, it makes it look like macs are all about image, rather than form & performance. Second, it cost them credibility when they are finger pointing, when they are not actually describing macs as performing better. Tey shoud focus more on their new and innovative things, the quality of their machines rather than discrediting the competition!

I know it really doesn't make sense to me either. I love how they make the mac guy young hip and cool and the PC guy a total nerd. Mac's are nice computers but i'm sorry I really don't think that i will never spend that amount of money on a computer and software. And really whats the different Bill Gates owns a good amount of Apple anyways. The money going to the same place.
