Minorities and women in the workplace.
Anyone that thinks Affirmative Action is not necessary and very much needed is living in a fantasy world.
I have personally known over 20 women that have experienced hostility in the workplace in male dominated engineering fields. Some of them were eventually even fired after complaining.
This is an atrocity in the 21st century and it happens a lot more than anyone knows.
I have an electrical engineering degree and my sister has a mechanical engineering degree. Both of us have experienced this.
My sister was a mechanical eng. for Nascar and was the only female in the research and development dept. I can not count how many times she called me while on her lunch hour upset and crying from being harassed. Btw, the only black person in that entire building was the receptionist.
Affirmative Action is needed now more than ever because there are still a lot of white males that make it clear they do NOT want females or minorities to 'intrude' on what they call a 'white man's job'.
Point is that taking away Affirmative Action is saying that you believe ppl will on their own level the playing field... this is just not true as history has repeatedly shown us.

Nowadays, Hispanics and Indians. Used to be more about African Americans, but things have changed.
Fortunately for me, Clinton created some programs to help minorities get into college, and I got my bachelor's degree. Now everyday I compete with other engineers from Michigan Tech, UTexas, Harvard, Cornell, Ga Tech, USC, Stanford, and Iowa State. I have been above average in promotions and have been given more lead positions than many of my white counterparts. I'm not better than everyone, but I am in the top third in performance. I came in the door with my corporation through an affirmative action program.

Are you talking about affirmative action for the rich or is it some other form?
The rich get into any school they want! A Black could not get into Harvard Graduate School of Business with a 1.8 GPA from Yale, could they?

From my understanding it is supposed to be giving preference to a minority in job/school situations.
It is really an unfair law , because , from what I understand (and I may be wrong) if a black/hispanic/ indian or what is classed as a minority has applied for a job etc , they will be given prefernce over someone else with the same qualifications.
Companies have to take on a certain number of individuals from minority backgrounds, and have a quota to meet, there fore if enough minorities are not applying for a job, they will go out and recruit them to meet their quota.
It's a terrible law ...everyone should stand on their own merit , and no one should be denied a job because of their background, black white hispanic asian ..etc etc , it should be based on qualifications , not race .

If you mean who does it benefit? It's supposed to help any group of people who has systematically been disenfranchised by the majority in power. So racial and ethnic minorities, women, the elderly, the disabled, homosexuals, religious minorities, ect.

It's not meant to benefit anyone but to level the playing field for everyone. Unfortunately, nobody likes it when you mess with the status quo.

Women and non-whites. Companies have to have a certain percentage of both non-whites and women to get government funding.
