They are part of the family, why ignore them. If you're not going to look after them, then you shouldn't have them!!

Ignoring your pets will only make them a lonely and afraid, then they will turn on someone as you have not had the time or the brains to train and spend time with them. If you are going to ignore your pet, dont get one, if you have one, give it to someone who will ove it, whether it be a fish or a dog - all pets need love and attention.

What do you mean by ignore? are you talking about when you first come home? or are you meaning ignore them in general?
Its ok for a short time when you come in and greet the other family members first, then the pets. But not to ignore them for no reason, its not fair, why would you want to?

You can think what you like; the fact is that animals are alive. The species we choose to keep as pets live in groups, and we become part of their family group. It defeats the purpose of keeping a pet if you just ignore it.
You can ignore a plant, it doesn't care if you don't talk to it. But even a plant will die without correct care.
And part of the correct care for many animals is to interact with them, it makes their lives less boring - and ours.
If you don't like animals, don't keep them.

Why bother having a pet if you are going to ignore them.....you might as well not have bothered getting a pet in the first place........

first of all no! that is cruel and if your gonna ignore ur pet then don't buy one, if you want to waste money shred it and not make an animals life sad. secondly, why would you post a question like this? just for some attention? if so that's sad, and if you really do have a pet and your ignoring it and it's needs then your sick!
by the way, thanks for the points, you wasted them, i get them. hee hee!

Why would you take a pet if you'll ignore it? The idea would be to have them as a part of your family.

Sometimes this works as punishment after they have done something wrong. Its not good to shout or hit your pet as this doesnt mean anything to them and they will continue to bite, growl etc, but sometimes just ignoring them can do the trick as they want attention.

to a point, in certain circumstances, yes.
E.G. Dogs are pack animals and are always looking for "promotion" within the pack. If you get home from work they expect you to greet the pack members in order of seniority, so greet your wife/husband first, then the children and lastly the dog(s). This will let them know where they stand in "the pack". There is no shame for the dog in being of "low importance", but a lot of behavioural problems can arise if they get confused about their status.

that's what I was doing with my rabbit for a while because She is so aggressive towards everything and everyone. My kids and I are tired of being bitten on or attacked by her. I do hope for the best for her. I am guessing she wants a mate..I am not going to give her that. There is no room or money for a village of bunnies in my house. Anyhow, I am trying to get rid of her to a new home.
