Nothing. Everyone's definitions and interpretations are different.

Normal is, and always has been what the majority of a group collectively agree on as acceptable behaviour. Anything that contradicts the group is considered abnormal.

Many people feel that what is considered "normal" is changing. This would be true due to the fact that the social group to which they belong is changing, and therefore the groups values and therefore definition of "normal" is changing.

I would think that for all life forms (plant & animal), normal is to function as Mother Nature intended. To survive, adapt and reproduce. For people: 1. Physically to be consistently mobil would be 'normal'. 2. Mentally to be able to communitcate, rationalize, analize & conclude would be 'normal'. Obviously, what I might rationalize, analize or conclude could differ from you as day is night. Neither would be abnormal though. To communicate one person may yell & scream, while another speaks softly. They both communicate, neither is abnormal. (One of them just has a really rotten way of communicating - lol.) That you are asking this question bespeaks of you as a very normal person. That's good. I'm glad you didn't ask what is abnormal. That's a tougher question. Uh Oh- It's past my nap time. Good Luck, Mike

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" sort of speaks to the same idea. Crab fishermen go into work with the chance that they may not come home. For him, thats normal. Now, someone who works at a McDonalds doesn't walk into work worrying about whether or not he will walk out of there alive. So it depends on which way you're looking at it.
