About blank is great, in fact, I'd highly suggest it. I like for mine to be blank so that I can go to the sites of my choice, not a site that someone else wants me to go to. That's the very reason that we have so many tracking cookies watching everywhere we go and everything that we do. Your choice of homepages will not help you to get on the internet. There's other issues somewhere that's keeping him from getting on. I'll be happy to work with you step by step until the problem is solved, but first I'll need more info about the programs on the laptop. I need to know who your internet provider is and whether or not you've installed their program into his laptop. Without it, It will not get online. I also need to know if the home is using DSL or Cable and if there is a router hooked up to the main computer in the house and whether or not he's wanting to use a wireless router in his laptop. Email me at dumbbutt4321@yahoo.com and we'll get it all fixed up. Larry RadioShack 01-9590

this is a question that can have many answers, first , is there a network interface card in it?, second, is it connected to a ethernet cable, third are the proper drivers installed for the card, fourth can you do an internal loopback? (start,run,type in cmd for win2k and xp, command for win95,98,ME) then type in "ping /127.0.0.1" ,without the quotes and see if it returns a TTL number on four lines, and if it does, you have a connection, the other thing to do is release and renew your adapter
. In the same command box type in "ipconfig /release" then press enter, then type in "ipconfig /renew" , and press enter, then try to get online.if none of this works, the problem is likely with your connection so swap the cable . if all this fails, try to phone your ISP and ask them if you have service hooked up yet!!

there are other factors, if this machine has been running properly previously, it may be a trojan or a browser hihacker, run all your spyware and virus scanners, and use the online scanners also, (Trendmicro housecall, zero spyware, etc.)

Sounds like you don't have the settings configured properly. Start from the beginning and follow all instructions in order. If you can get online on another computer then go to your cable companies website where they will probably have information on how to set up a home network.

This is a vicious homepage hijacker and may elude some free antispyware tools; however have a go with Spybot Search & Destroy or AVG Antispyware

If problems persist, you may have to use a paid for tool;
