I got my daughter a HABA (thats the brand) flower called 'Fidelia' that comes apart into two pieces, the blossom and the stem (which looks like a butterfly then). The price is €6,99 and you should be able to get in in any good toystore. Not Toysrus though.
It can make rustling sounds and my daughter really likes biting into it... or looking at it.

Try a Teddy Bear that Glows in the Dark that changes colors. It will be very stimulating to her, keep her fascinated for a while and the best thing yet is that you can get it at a wal mart. I think that they are around 10 bucks or so

Clothes for the next season are always nice to get. For a simpler, more practical gift get diapers and food.

clothing is always good. check with the parents to make sure of size. 6 month old sized clothing doesn't always fit a 6 month old. buy a cute little outfit.

Someone got my daughter a glow worm doll (not sure if they have that where you are) when she was that age. And she loved it, she still uses it every day in her crib, it lights up and plays music, so cute!
