a. The Bering Sea is a northern extension of the north Pacific Ocean. Its eastern border is Alaska; its western border is Russia's Chukotka and Kamchatka Peninsulas; its southern boarder is the semicircle (arc) of islands of the Alaska Peninsula, the Aleutian Islands, and Russia's Commander Islands.
b. There is a convergent plate boundary just east of the Japanese Islands, where subduction of ocean crust is occurring. The process is associated with the volcanoes of Japan, and with earthquakes onshore and offshore.
