I believe only after you give the owner written notice that they need to retrieve it within that 30 days and they do not do that. Make sure you get a few witnesses to the fact that you gave them the notice.

NO, absolutely not.

Property can only be owned or possessed if you legally hold title, deed, or bill of sale or the rights thereof. Possession is NOT 9/10ths of the law.

If I leave my car at your house for 30 days, it does not become yours.

Technically, no. If someone leaves something at your house and eventually remembers it, they have every right to expect you to return it. If they have a receipt for a product and they take you to small claims court, you would have to either return the item or if it is broken return the amount printed on the receipt including the sales tax.

It becomes yours to dispose of in any manner that is legal according to your state or local laws. It is covered under ABANDONED PROPERTY LAWS.
