I really want to start to knit, but I don't really know where to begin. Can anyone suggest some books, projects and stores where I could buy wool in Canada, esp Vancouver?

regular yarns are available at WalMart, Zellers and specialty yarn stores (yellow pages). I've found great deals on ebay as well. the about.com website has a list of suppliers and instructions for beginners

I highly recommend a book called "Ready, Set, Knit". It has step by step instructions with pictues. It also stands up by itself so you can follow along hands free while you knit.
