Even if the Dems took the majority (which I doubt.) They wouldn't be able to cause it takes more then a simple majority to impeach (I believe it is 3/4 but I could be wrong.) Anyhow IF dems took a majority it would be by 1 or 2 seats, nowhere near enough to impeach even if you had grounds for an impeachment.

If the democrats gain the majority in congress, George Bush would immediately become a lame duck president. However, impeachment would have at the very least symbolic significance.

But...

It would take a long time to carry out impeachment proceedings and unlikely that they would have enough votes to remove him from office. Congress will probably spend their time on resolving all the problems the Bush administration has thrust upon America. It would certainly be more productive than trying to impeach a lame duck.

Conservatives are funny. They don't think there's a case against Bush because he wasn't unfaithful to his wife.

Seriously, it would take too long to impeach Bush. His 2 years would be up by the time they put it to a vote. The Dems need to investigate so many things, and still go ahead with a legislative agenda at the same time. They will be better off picking issues they can act on more quickly, and with greater effect.

They have better things to do initially, like getting this country back on the right track. One thing they're going to do is take a good, long look at the 9/11 Commission recommendations - that's when they'll start talking about impeachment - when all the lies come to the forefront (as if they don't know about the lies already). They have two years and a lot to do - give them time.

It's pointless unless the dems have a super majority in both the house and senate. That's fine with me. I prefer they spend their time addressing other issues. Even if Bush was removed the best that would happen is we would have Shooter Cheney as president, and that not what I call an upgrade.
You have to remember that even if the dems take one or both houses they can't do anything until the new congress is sworn in this coming January. Bush is out two years after that.

Since the Dems don't have the guts to invade the privacy of terrorists or formulate a working plan to deal with the terrorists in any way, shape or form, do I think they have the guts to "impeach"? Yeah, probably. They'd do almost anything to redirect the country's attention from the really important things that so desperately need addressing.

Even if they get the majority, there will be Dems who are not willing to impeach.

I remember reading in "stupid white men" about a Democratic senator who voted with republicans every single time.

In my own estimate at least10% of the Dems will not go for impeachment.

I'm a Dem, but why do you feel they should impeach? What's the point? I mean, Bush is a horrible leader, but half the country will usually feel that every president is. That is so immature and sophmorish and it slps democracy in the face. Someone that makes decisions in gov't that you wouldn't make means they should be fired? No. This is America, land of where every politician is crooked, but not too crooked to be punished for it. Bush has great intentions, he just doesn't understand the reality of how the World goes around.

Guts has nothing to do with impeachment--there is plenty of other things that need to get done rather than focus on a lame duck that will be gone on 1-20-2009!

Let them try. They'll fail and look ridiculous in the process. Then We'll retake Congress in the very next election.

Remember, the dirty little secret is that Many, Many democrats voted in Favor of the War, the Patriot Act, and all the other contorversial actions done in the last 6 years. Democrats sit in committees that knew all about Gitmo, and Abu Graib, and will have a very difficult time trying to make any "crime" stick at the Presidential level.

Sounds like fun- I can't wait.
