There's nothing wrong with you. Although you may want to get a cook book and learn to cook some different foods :) As far as braiding your hair goes, there are plenty of girls I know that can't. Even if I show them how. Some people just learn these things growing up and others don't. If they are things you are interested in by all means learn how but if you are comfortable not knowing how to do them then so be it. On the flip side there is nothing wrong with him knowing how to cook and braid. I actually had to teach my uncle how to french braid hair because my cousin was on a cheer leading squad and he had to do her hair for her :) There's nothing cuter than a retired trucker french braiding a little girls hair :)

Don't stress about it.. tons of girls can't do the whole girly thing. I'm wicked girly, but I can't fix anything to save my life. My bf makes fun of me because I always want to wear make up and do my hair before going out. And not everyone can cook, I learnt how to cook from my dad, becasuse my mom has a hard time boiling water even!! Next time he makes fun of you because you can't cook or braid hair, just remind him that that's why you two make a great couple, cause if he doesn't like the way your hair looks, he can just do it for you! But yess, it's totally normal!

Hey Red, it probably didn't help that your mom didn't teach you a lot of the feminine things but it's never too young to learn. Hopefully your boyfriend is teasing you in a nice way. If not, I am sure you will find someone who can appreciate you for who you are... Also, you should appreciate your Mom for who she is...
I always think, if some says I can't do something, it's my job to either be okay with it and agree or to prove them wrong. Figure out if cooking and doing your hair are things that are key to your happiness, if they aren't ---- forget about it...
Be at peace, my friend!

If he is going to make fun of you find a new boy friend. Even if you go through life single you will need to learn to cook. Get a recipe book or books for the things that are you favorites and start making them. You can always go out and get your hair braided or have your girl friend do it.

Because my mom died when I was 14,there was not much time in the kitchen for me,so I learned what I could from her,in that little time. As I got older,my oldest Sister, and my Aunts taught me how to cook. My mom always kept my hair right, then my sister started taking care of it,until I was old enough to do it myself. You can get some good recipes from your female relatives,or a neighbor. You can also search on your computer (www.recipes.com). You'll find anything from Asparagus to Zucchini!. (Good Luck!)

No, that isn't abnormal. Those just aren't in your list of skills. I bet if you wrote them down, there are a lot of things you can do that he can't. Who cares if someone deems a task 'girly' or 'boyish'?
I want to be able to do that which will help me in life, and for right now, my hair is low on my list of priorities. I'd much rather be able to cook for myself (something supposedly 'girly'- tell that to Emeril!), change a tire (something supposedly 'boyish'), etc., etc. You get the picture.
Learn to do these things if you want to know how to do them, not because it's what's required by your gender.

It's not the norm, but to say it's abnormal makes it sound like there's something wrong with you. Do whatever you're interested in. If you want to learn to cook, or how to give yourself a great hairstyle, do it. Otherwise, why bother? And too bad if your boyfriend, or anyone else, doesn't like it.

Some woman are more rough and some are too prissy. A girly- guy is way worse than a non-prissy girl!! Have confidence in yourself, respect yourself and keep doing your personal best. You are who God made you and that's that. Love yourself and others will love you. Shame on your man for making fun of you too!

I do hope he was teasing. A lot of us grew up without the standard gender roles. Be who you are. If you like to cook, learn. If you like to do hair, learn. But quite frankly we need more women in the HOUSE and in the SENATE. And apparently you need no special skills to be elected, so give it a go!!
Peace.
