First off are you in a relationship? If so is it serious? Secondly, it is always good to be in a relationship with someone who can offer that type of companionship. He sounds like a keeper just explain to him exactly how you feel and be HONEST! He will understand remember he is still that friend you can talk to. And email me a wedding invatation. lol

When you say that it was a shock, do you mean that you don't reciprocate his feelings? It could be quite awkward for the both of you, but make sure you talk about it. Don't make up things like saying that you value the friendship too much to take the risk, say it only if you really mean it. If you don't have feelings for him, tell him, he will be hurt but if he's really such a good friend he will respect and accept your decision. Your feelings could change over time though, so don't burn your bridges, if he really cares that much about you, he could very well be the right person for you. But it's you who has to decide that. In the meantime, try your best to return to the old friendship, and try not to lead him on; this will be hard, because he will always be secretly hoping you might change your mind and he will tend to interpret any niceness on your part as a possible indication of romantic feelings. But if your friendship is that strong, it will survive.

Above all, don't avoid each other, talk about it.

Be totally honest. Tell him you love and trust him as your dearest friend and you are flattered by what he told you, but let him know you are not interested in him as a boyfriend. Avoiding him will only make matters very uncomfortable for both of you and you definitely don't want to lose the special friendship the two of you have always shared.

He had the courage to place his heart in your hands, so please be very gentle with it as you place it back into his hands.

You haven't talked to him for a month? That must have been rough on the both of you. How do you feel about him? Could you be more than friends? Would you want to be? Figure that out, then call him as soon as possible.

Ignoring him/ not talking to him hurts him, and you don't want that, do you? You have to find out if you love him- how you really feel, and talk to him about it. Nothing hurts more than being ignored. If he's your closest friend, he should accept whatever you feel. Do both of you a favor and face him, don't hurt your friendship by ignoring him.

Tell him exactly how you feel abought him. Don't give him false hopes. It wouldn't be fair to him. Sever ties or just be common friends. Maybe he has been in love with you for a long while and suddenly got the confidence to tell you his feelings.

If you like him go for it. If not tell him you just want to be friends. Know that if you choose to go for it that you will be changing your friendship and it won't ever be the same. But it could be wonderful. Make sure you look deep at want you want and don't make the wrong choice just to spare his feelings.

Honesty is the best policy. Do you love him in the same way he loves you? Tell him how you feel, and be honest. If he's a true friend he'll appreciate your honesty and respect your feelings.
