How do they account for all that they get paid for "shoots" and what about taxes on their checks like state, federal and social security?

They get paid just like everyone else. Taxes paid out of every check too. It's a business. Huge business. And don't think for a minute that they don't get audited.

The biggies are pretty corporate, I suppose they do them off their W2s like most other people.
Unless they get classified 'independent contractor' like a bunch of the Microsoft employees, then you gotta do all the tax & SS payouts yourself.
